A decade ago, I began a side project. It was a passion project for me. I chose YouTube as the platform to ship the work. This YouTube channel took 10 years, 2 months, and 23 days to reach 1 million subscribers.

The channel ranks among the world’s top 20 in its niche. We generate 7-figure revenue every month and have over 2,500 customers around the world. And all of this was built without leveraging my name and fame.

A project like this can live on for generations without my name attached to it.

Think of pseudonymity as being anonymous. When your work and content are good, this approach makes it mysterious, and people want to know more and learn more about you. However, you still choose to remain anonymous.

These are the three pillars you should focus on if you want to build a pseudonym brand on YouTube.

1. Let curiosity take the lead.
You will find eureka moments and be able to document your discoveries and perspectives as you follow your curiosity. You will eventually become extremely passionate about what you do.

2. Remain consistent.
Be consistent rather than perfect. Ship regularly. Watch and learn from the best, and keep creating. Experiment constantly. Creating content that reaches out to the world while adding value to their lives should be your goal.

3. Shape your identity.
You can learn a lot from the comments and feedback you receive. Observe how they address your work and yourself. Expand on that and create your brand around these words.

Focus on these pillars for your first 100 uploads. You’ll eventually come up with your own way to reach major YouTube milestones.

In keeping this project secret, just like my low-key music career, I live my life how I want to, without having to take center stage. Pseudonym projects liberate and empower you. Go start one.
