When you start, you’ll be insecure, scared, and volatile.

You’re not sure how people will like your work, so to ensure the work you start—talking.

You give a long prelude before playing out your work or singing—narrating what this song is, how it was made, how it is not in pitch, how it is not perfect, etc. You throw all your fears out in the open in the form of your shortcomings.

So before the client/producer/director/listener hears your material, you’ve ruined your chances of an unbiased hearing. You’ve failed even before you could attempt or showcase your work.

The best way to overcome your fear and anxiety pangs is to play out the material directly without any prelude. Don’t look at the client/producer/director/listeners’ face for reactions or bite your nails or shiver in your pants with fear and apprehension. Rather, take it light; it’s no big deal.

If it’s good or bad, embrace it with a positive spirit. And always remember, go for the kill right at the beginning.

Talking can be done later.
