Vocals, guitars, drums, synth – perfect and… you’ve produced your ‘first’ good little track.
You showcased it to the world. Someone likes it and wants to ‘use’ that track. You need to be prepared for that moment when that someone asks for the track to be used in a film, jingle, event, etc.
Don’t get insecure and overprotective of the track.
Rather than trying to be cocky and bottle the track, let the track you’ve made have its own journey.
Let it enjoy its life… its existence… letting it go through lyrical changes, guitar re-dubs, new grooves, tight basslines, and just about everything to let it adapt to this new medium. In this process, you learn what’s good and what’s not for your music and for you. Then you can decide whether you’d want to collaborate or not, or let your track out in the future.
Before experiencing this, don’t try to put up an ego-show about how much the track means to you and other blahs and rants.
The world is changing and moving at a pace, swarming with many talented people and productions. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to explore new avenues by being insecure and overprotective.
