“…she was expecting a call from you. Every music director, when they reach town, calls her up!” “I don’t call other composers like D#@!D*!@^; they will give her a chance.
With you, I have to call you and ask you to give her a song.” “Have you heard her song from (some film)? She sings Hindi too; give her a chance for your Hindi project.”
The above are just selected quotes from a conversation I had with an “agent” who was pushy in promoting a singer.
Whatever happened to integrity, honesty, and hard work! I’ve come up the hard way until here, and I love working with people who are honest and true to their passion for music or for whatever they have chosen to be.
Like many of us, who toil day in and day out without any godfather and pushy agents; we get immense satisfaction and pleasure in every little studio visit, every simple chord progression we hear, every unplugged YouTube video we watch; and we inspire, motivate, and challenge ourselves to raise our standards and keep striving to reach wherever this long bumpy road of music leads us to.
At the end of it, we shall be content when we look back at all the trials and tribulations that had to be undertaken.
That said, some selected few artists and their wagging tail tippers believe in some other kind of hard work: indulging in atrocious marketing and promotional ways to get them to be a part of every song that’s produced on this planet!
Get your act together; make some music. Money and fame will follow your trail.
There’s only one way out to do what you love: that’s to love what you do. You need to toil it out yourself; you need to be known for your talent and not for your cheapo agent!
