As for all those bubbly, chirpy, impatient, ‘I can sing better than the original singer’ folks – stop what you’re doing now. Stop doing cover versions, as it might just park you in jail.
In my earlier post about cover versions, I had posted how important it is to stay original. And the views, likes, and comments that you’re getting there are not for your music, as you may want to think. They are for the original.
We here in India use technology in the shabbiest way possible. We think whatever we do is original, but most of it is a straight lift from what we just saw or heard. Sadly, we are good at it and keep getting better at it.
All the YouTube squatter musicians with a camera, mic, and a guitar doing their best to churn out their own version of the hit song, be aware. Stop being imitative; you’ll be short-lived (as a musician), and your music will definitively not have an identity.
I post this with a smirk on my face, as I would want to see this ‘cover crap’ phenomenon make way for some original music.
Make originals. It’s more fun and enriching.
