I interviewed a guy for an assistant’s post, and on the first day, I asked him to wind audio cables used in the studio. He did them but found it well below his esteem to do the job.
He was asked to wipe clean the equipment before starting work; that too pulled his self-image down, I guess. He was not happy. He asked if he had to do this daily – I said yes! And he chickened out!
When you start up in music, you can’t dream of having a luxurious setting to let your creative juices flow.
To make good music, you need to be disciplined; you need to toil hard and do simple things that you think you should not be doing.
The impression today’s youth have of music and the people behind it is that it is a cool, cozy, 23-degree Celsius cooled workspace where there is lots of fun, entertainment, and music.
Reality check – to rest your bum on that studio chair, you need to burn your bum first.
Only the hardworking and passionate who toil their way through can think of making it big.
