Let’s do something like that.

Let’s do a cover version of that song.

Typically, that’s how most of you tend to start. There’s a problem with that approach when you’re wanting to create something.

You keep an already produced work as a benchmark and then aspire to reach somewhere close to it by doing a cover or a tribute version. In the process, you’ll end up giving permission to judge. They cannot enjoy your work candidly without comparison.

And the immediate downside of that is

You get boxed into a certain category.

You are being reviewed for your work against the original.

Art and creation have to reach their lover (in this case, your listener, viewer, client) like a breath of fresh air. And then they consume it, live it, appreciate it, or critique it for its original form. A true community of people gets built around your work. Even though small in number, they will adore you for who you are. And that alone can inspire you to innovate and experiment to create something unique.

So the next time you have an urge to create something,

Create Something Original.
