A recent few projects that I’m working on had the directors belting out the word ‘hummable’ in their song brief to me. Categorically used in phrases like –

“Make that hook line hummable.”
“The song should have a hummable whistle.”
“The song should have a Harris Jayaraj-like hummable element.”
“Let’s make a hummable song.”

Ok. So a song that you hear multiple times, at multiple points and places, via multiple mediums makes it stick in your head. And when it sticks in your head, it’s hummable. It’s the best composition, the singer is amazing, the lyrics are out of this world, and all other blahs.

And… this would mean that the other songs made in this world that this guy does not hear are just not good enough, and that makes the song un-hummable.
