Been a long time, guys. The last update I shared was about this Mammootty film, “Bombay March 12,” for which I scored the background score.
The film received rave reviews but didn’t do well at the box office. Now, I have three Malayalam films that I have scored music for, which have received critical acclaim but also didn’t perform well at the box office.
However, I’m proud to be part of these films as they were bold and attempted unconventional filmmaking and storytelling that audiences need to acclimate themselves to accept. I will continue to work with this new breed of filmmakers who are passionate.
Post-Shaitan, things have been brighter and better; many opportunities are passing by, but I really wanted to be sure of the people I would be working with. So, I backed out from a few projects, and others shunted me out for voicing my creative concerns.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
There was this group of filmmakers who wanted me to score music for their film and needed free-of-cost scratches for them to decide whether they would want to feature my music in the score, to which I politely refused.
Surprised, they said, “…the biggest composers here do scratches and then we take a call.” “Then that’s what makes me different, I guess…” I consoled them.
By the way, the brief given to me for this film was Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge set in the underworld! Pathbreaking, isn’t it?
All part of the game.
That said, I’m working on a few interesting projects that I’ll keep you posted about, which include Bejoy Nambiar’s and Lijo Jose Pellisserry’s next!
There’s also a special project I’m working on, for which an announcement will be made soon. And yes, I’ve formed my band “Groove Loves Company” and released an album titled ‘Debut.’
